Phillip, a 2020 recipient of the Deaf Educational Scholarship, was able to follow his dreams of pursuing a Bachelor of Education.
We are proud of Phillip, and are incredibly happy that the financial support of the NFD Trust will enable him to touch the lives of students for years to come.
The NFD Trust offers grants and scholarships to New Zealanders who are Deaf or hard of hearing.
Grants are also available to those who are hearing able and work in the Deaf and hard of hearing sector. Visit the Grants and Scholarships page to find out if you'd be eligible for a grant from the NFD Trust.
Phillip shared his experience with us:
“I am honoured to be a recipient on the 17th August of the NFD Trust’s Deaf Educational Scholarship 2020. I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your continued support to students who need it most.
I have started my studies at the end of February. I am doing well so far with many assignments, which will build up my teaching skills as a Bachelor of Education (Primary). I am doing a significant amount of reading as well.
This scholarship has opened a door and the prospect of a brighter future for me and will play a key role in shaping me into a successful person in the future. I will give back my skills to the community as a teacher.
As one of the assignments, I have created a poster, and will like to share it with you. The poster attached to this letter is one of my Te Reo Māori paper assignments, and it makes me proud.
I cannot express my gratitude enough, and I want you to know that your generous support will see me achieve my dreams.”
