Events
We believe that experience of hearing loss should be visible and understood in New Zealand.
That's why we are working hard to raise awareness for the everyday experiences of Deaf and hard of hearing Kiwis.
All of our events focus on creating a more inclusive and accessible society that recognises the needs of our Deaf and hard of hearing community.
World Hearing Day
World Hearing Day is celebrated annually on the 3rd March to raise awareness of preventable hearing loss and promote ear and hearing care around the world.
The World Health Organization’s theme for World Hearing Day 2023 is: Ear and hearing care for all!
We will be supporting WHO to highlight the importance of integrating ear and hearing care within primary care, as an essential component of universal health coverage.
This day also marks the launch of WHO’s new training manual - Primary ear and hearing care training manual for health workers and general practitioners. This essential manual will be accompanied with trainer’s handbook and other community resources.

NZSL Week
Celebrating New Zealand Sign Language!
Each year we come together in May to celebrate New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL)! As one of New Zealand's two official languages through the New Zealand Sign Language Act 2006, we want to recognise and raise awareness for this beautiful language.
As more New Zealanders learn to sign, the more accessible and inclusive our society will become.
In 2022, the theme of New Zealand Sign Language Week was "Essential". NZSL is essential for Deaf people in education, health, workplaces, and to be able to participate equally in society.

Gather your workmates or a group of friends for a morning tea or lunch, and begin the Take 30 challenge. We provide everything you need to run the event, just bring the people and the cupcakes!
