Founded in 1978, the Deaf & Hard of Hearing Foundation grew from grassroots advocacy into a nationwide organisation supporting thousands of New Zealanders each year. While our reach has expanded, our focus has remained the same: listening to community voices and responding with practical, evidence-informed solutions shaped by lived experience.

The National Foundation for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (NFDHH) is an independent New Zealand charity focused on improving hearing health and removing barriers. For over 45 years, we have supported Deaf and hard of hearing communities across Aotearoa.
Our work sits at the intersection of community insight, evidence-based practice and practical delivery. We partner across advocacy, education and hearing health with schools, workplaces, providers and communities to create lasting change.

Too many Deaf and hard of hearing people still face barriers others don’t notice. These barriers affect education, employment, health and connection, impacting families, whānau, schools and workplaces. We exist to change this, respectfully and together.
