Supporting Hearing, Connection, and Wellbeing in Pasifika Communities

The Pasifika Community Engagement Programme is a community-led initiative supporting Pacific families, elders, and whānau across Auckland and Waikato.

The programme provides free hearing checks, culturally grounded education, and trusted guidance in environments where Pacific communities already gather.

Why This Programme Matters

Many Pasifika families face barriers to hearing support, including cost, transport, language and unfamiliarity with services. When hearing changes go unmanaged, they can affect communication, wellbeing and connection within whānau and community life.

What The Programme Offers

The programme offers free hearing screenings in trusted community spaces, culturally relevant hearing health education, and whānau-centred guidance to help families understand next steps and access the hearing support they may need.

Early Impact

Even in early delivery, we are seeing strong engagement.

  • 15 community-based hearing screenings delivered
  • 186 Pasifika elders and whānau supported
  • 82% of participants had concerns with hearing
